Why Help Me Stop Diabetes?
Diabetes is a disease in which the body does not produce or properly use insulin. Insulin is a hormone that is needed to convert sugar, starches and other food into energy needed for daily life. The cause of diabetes continues to be a mystery, although both genetics and environmental factors appear to play roles. There are 23.6 million Americans living with diabetes, a disease that is outpacing heart disease, cancer and AIDS. Diabetes is a disease that has deadly serious consequences, and there is no cure.

When you walk, you help Stop Diabetes.
Walking is one of the easiest, most relaxing forms of exercise for many people, but especially for those living with diabetes. Walking helps control blood glucose levels in people with diabetes and improves overall quality of life. It is also an activity that can help prevent or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes in people at risk.

You can walk almost anywhere at any time. And walking can give you more energy and help relieve stress. It is a simple, positive way to improve your health.  No need for expensive equipment - just a good pair of walking shoes!

And walking for the cause helps raise funds for the mission of the American Diabetes Association: to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.

In recognition of National Diabetes Awareness Month, we are hosting A Sweet Shoot- Houston Edition on Sunday, November 7, 2010.  Guests will converge on the Lofts of City Centre to enjoy an afternoon of pampering, camera time, boutique shopping, tasty bites and signature sips- all while learning about the dangers of developing diabetes and the do’s and dont’s of managing the disease.

Proceeds will benefit the American Diabetes Association, which will be on hand to distribute information, answer questions and sign up participants for this year’s Step-Out WALK for Diabetes.

The Pretty Party is pleased to announce partnerships with two of Houston’s premier beauty businesswomen: Athena Elliot-founder of SPAthena Diabetic Wellness & MinxHouston.com- and Andrea Schutter- celebrity makeup artist and owner of Fabulous & Flawless Studio Boutique.

This past year of organization and laying the foundation for The Pretty Party has been full of growing pains and sacrifices to get us to THIS point. But now that we’re here, roughly 6 events and 4 cities deep, we’ve placed 200% of our faith in the Lord to not only bless this venture, but to continue using The Pretty Party to be a blessing to women AND men, girls AND boys, everywhere.

To everyone that’s stood behind Lexi and me and helped us develop this pretty picture… for being patient and understanding when we’ve had to reschedule personal plans because business called… for encouraging us to stay with it and to not settle for anything less than perfection… for every thin dime and endorsed check given to support our events… to all the talented photographers, make-up artists and stylists who’ve worked tirelessly for low (and sometimes no) pay just so that we could complete the task on budget… WE THANK YOU.
